KESYDO

Kenya Slum Youths Development Organization (KESYDO) is mobilizing the youths, community, Government, civil Society Organizations, academia, private organizations, development partners, donors and sponsors both at the local and international level towards multi-stakeholders partnership in setting up Youth Friendly Information centers, funds to train and advocate for life skills, human rights, campaign against HIV/AIDS, TB, drug abuse and Malaria, peer education, Reproductive health environment conservation and water and sanitation. The agenda of the partnership is to develop a strategic working framework on how each of the partners can scale up their core competencies towards fulfilling the mission of mobilizing resources and structure programs to be implemented in slums in Kenya by KESYDO.

Partnership with KEPSA

KESYDO is a member and partner of Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA). We have partnered on the Kenya Youth Empowerment Project (KYEP) where as an organization we take in youths between the age of 15-29 for internship, and we deploy some to our partner organizations depending on their field of training. We engage interns on Life Skills Training, core business skills Training, entrepreneurship training, MSE Skills Training, ICT training and other Sector specific training. Partnership with YSA 

Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes millions of children and youth who improve their communities each day of the year through service and servicelearning. Established in 1988, GYSD is the largest service event in the world and is now celebrated in over 100 countries. It is organised and coordinated worldwide with youth service America (YSA)Both in 2008, 2009 and 2014, KESYDO was the Country Partner charged with coordinating the event in the country. In 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 we were the East Africa and Southern Africa Regional Partner for GYSD. In this region KESYDO was able to mobilize more than 300 events in 21 countries, for the 4 years, bringing on board more 200,000 youth volunteers.

ENVIRONMENT

KESYDO desires to Partner with you, environment management agencies, donors and interested stakeholders to develop a system where all youths and women will have an equal opportunity to a clean healthy, secure and sustainably managed environment for all, through Planting trees, Creating awareness on eradication of plastic bags and its importance to the environment, cleaning drainage in slums, discouraging charcoal use, advocating against global warming and encourage use of renewable/ green energy, and environmental transformation through the available resources as well as soliciting funds to realize the organization's objectives in the 47 counties of kenya. KESYDO is currently in discussion with National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) for possible national wide partnership in areas below;

1) Create Synergy in Management of the environment through advocacy and awareness forums and trainings.

2) ICT - Development of Youth Friendly centers in mentioned counties with environmental focused messaging to empower young people and women

3) Support NEMA in ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and policies in order to maintain a clean, healthy and sustainable environment through advocacy and awareness e.g. eradication of plastic bags usage and encouraging green energy usage.

4) Health and environment - Address developing issues on health due to environment mismanagement e.g. address issues influencing global warming and Use of Clean energy.

5) Contingency Planning – mobilization of resources for mitigating drought, disaster preparedness and creating resilience among Arid and semi-Arid populations.

6) To participate in partnership with NEMA in building and nurturing strategic partnerships, aimed at enhancing sustainable management of environment.

We are pleased to invite you to our newly opened KESYDO youth Information and training resource center in Kisumu. The centre is located at Kachoki Chief’s Camp, Along Kisumu Nairobi road, opposite Nakumatt Mega Kisumu. The centre and is an avenue for youth empowerment through ICT. The Center seeks to increase job opportunities and reduction of unemployment rates, building employment-related capacities of youth, promotion of children’s rights awareness, learning through sports, arts, IT, nutrition and health, and entertaining children and youth through a friendly and interactive atmosphere in the center.

 

Youth from various slums in the country will receive training as leaders in the sectors of Arts, Sports, Nutrition/Agriculture, Information Technology, and Health and will become advocates for peer-to-peer and youth-to-child youth mentors. The Center provides young people from marginalized environments strategies and initiatives to young people to become leaders in creating sustainable social, environmental and economic impact worldwide. The youth will be provided access to initiatives to engage them through ICT interactions , social and virtual networking, and facilitate support structures to create development impact for themselves and for others. Our major beneficiaries of the centers training and capacity building include domestic workers, youths affected and infected with HIV/AIDS, school dropouts, touts (makanga), street children and destitutes, young mothers and widows drawn from various slums all over Nairobi County in Kenya. Resource Center Objectives

• To disseminate information to the youth especially in areas of health, e-governance, environment, agriculture etc

• To support business activities in both urban and rural communities by providing market information and extension services

• To promote sustainable ICT education targeted at youth to increase employment opportunities and access to training

• To promote youth accessibility to ICT equipment and materials

• To promote the operation of internet activity as a potential area for entrepreneurship development among youth for information and communication

• Complement the Kenya ICT board Digital village program (Pasha centers)
